Located in a busy tourist area near the Lauderdale Lakes chain in Southern Wisconsin between Elkhorn and Whitewater, our farm has been owned by only two families since it was purchased from the government in 1842. The Lauderdale family owned it for over 100 years until our family purchased the farm in 1963. Our immediate family includes Paul and Sylvia, Bob, Mike and Bev.
The Lauderdales raised wheat until the dairy herd was established. When our family bought the farm, we introduced Hereford cattle. Our sons, Bob and Mike purchased the first registered heifers for their 4-H and FFA projects in 1968. Soon we realized that the pastures needed a few more cows and a bull and our herd was established.
Our farm is truly a family venture. Paul and Sylvia worked off the farm so much of the farm work was done on weekends and evenings, and Bob, Mike and Bev helped with chores, crops and improvements. We enjoyed showing our cattle at shows in the area, state and national events, with special memories of several Junior Nationals. We were proud to have our daughter Bev serve as our State Hereford Queen. All of our family is involved in the production and marketing of our cattle.
The herd consists of 25 registered brood cows who are enrolled in the TPR program. Our goal is to raise seed stock that will work and adapt in any environment. AI bulls are used to complement our bloodlines where we stress structural correctness, balanced EPD’s, longevity, calving ease and a good disposition. We raise replacement females and breeding bulls and finish our steers for quality beef. Feed for our herd is raised on our farm including grain and forages.
Our herd includes several generations of offspring who are Dams of Distinction from our home raised RB 29F 002 Right Now 630S herd sire. AI sires that are being used this year include Hometown 10Y, Trust, Frontier, R Leader, Churchill Red Bull and Taylor.
We enjoy visits from other breeders and have hosted several state tours. We also enjoy helping new breeders and juniors as they look for their projects, especially since Polled Herefords have been the right choice for us.
